12 Comments on The Weather Maps are Wrong! Alaska is NOT by Hawaii!
I moved to Hawaii from Virginia in 1973 with my first husband. My mother, in Virginia, did a Hawaii map and thought all of the islands were joined by BRIDGES!
Hi there Wallace, that would be SOME bridge!
We took a CRS class in California a few years back and one of our classmates very sweetly asked 'oh, your down there by Hawaii right?' Darn weather maps!
Of course, being born here I tend to have some built in humor. We used to tease family in the 'States' or 'Lower 48' that we had to take a sled dog team to school (and watch out for polar bears). J
Larry & Jacque, thinking Alaska & Hawaii have much differnt attributes! Like your snow photos, ours finally melted as it has been hanging around since December, which is very unusual!
That's an awesome snow photo. Love finding things in clouds or patterns in wood. That one sure did a good job of arranging itself.
Joan, we still have about 3 feet in our yard. I started to carve a path to make a silly photo but even our heavy duty snow blower was buried in all the snow. Enjoy some sunshine for us too! J
Hi there Leslie, the imagination was born from my folks raising 5 kiddos on one military salary! We would often go to the flight line on base with our lunches and watch planes take off. Inevitably we would all 'hunt' for things in the clouds. It was kind of a contest really (still is even as adults we still do it).
You will have to snap some pics and see if we can guess what it is. :) J
What a cool pattern of snow melt and how observant of you to notice! I don;t know if I should laugh or cry that people think Alaska is "by" Hawaii....
So funny! Glad you are getting the message out! They need to buy a globe or google it! LOL~ Love the snow map!! Brrr...
Hey there Marge, it is okay but my face sure did crinkle a little when she said that! Just to set the record straight though, we also use the same dollars that the rest of America uses (not foreign currency), you can drive, fly or boat into Alaska, our fish really are that big and a trip to Hawaii from here is only about 5.5 hours nonstop to Kona Hawaii.
The last one is a favorite of ours! :)
Hey there Lauren, we are a bit of a novelty up here but it is fun to expel some of the myths (and play with them a bit). I thought the map was neat, I really could not have melted the snow any better. The good news is that some of our nearly record breaking snowfall is finally melting. There have been numerous roof collapses on homes and buildings because of the snow load this year.
Larry and Jacque, thanks for posting the interesting photo, cool melt pattern, was that natural or did you sculpt it?
Hi there Bob, totally natural with no 'help' from anyone. I could not have done it better myself (nor would either of us climbed on that roof)!
