Cedar Rapids, Iowa Real Estate

In the news recently, there have been reports of the real estate market softening.  These reports come primarily from the east and west coasts of the United States, but here in the midwest, specifically Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we have not seen that "bubble" that experts have been talking about.  In fact, our market is up for the month of July by 10% over last year's sales.  Has anyone else in the midwest experienced what we have been experiencing in this area of the country?  I think it is misleading to have a "blanket" news report about the real estate bubble when there are actually sections of the country that are experiencing increases in sales.  Realtors need to have all the facts, and this is one of those facts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  The public can also be misinformed if they do not have all the information they need, and can be easily disuaded to sell or buy a home at this time of the year if they think the market is softening.  Any thoughts or comments from anyone regarding this topic, I would be interested in discussing.

Your post proves once again that real estate is local.  In Denver there area areas that sell with a much higher appreciation than other areas of the same city.  Knowing your city you can easily prove to a buyer the press is wrong.

Detroit area has slowed.  Auto layoffs have slowed our market.  Many jobs have went out of state or overseas.

A market is relative areas but also if you prepare and have enough leads in  your database you give yourself the ability to say next if a deal comes along that doesn't measure up.  So whether the market is up or down it really boils down to your management and lead generation resources.  PS drove through Cedar Rapids in June..too bad I didn't know you then would have stopped for a cup of tea and get to know you!
