If I Had a Crystal Ball, I'd Be Sipping Mai Tais

Many clients have asked me if the market has hit the bottom, when it will rebound, whether their home will have increased X% in Y years from now.

My response to all of them is simple, if I had a crystal ball, I'd be sipping mai tais on my own private island.  Since that obviously isn't the case, the best that I can do is show them the current market and what has happened in the past.

Magic Mirror

I then explain that we really need to explore the reasons why they are buying or selling to determine if this is the best time for them rather than trying to guess what the future will bring.

I wish I had a crystal ball or even a magic mirror.  Since I don't, I'll have to stick to just the facts ma'am.

I have been asked all types of questions that I could not possibly give a knowledgable answer to. I always pretty much answer like you did.

Christine - "mai tais on my own island" sounds heavenly....!  Great response to a question that no one can answer with 100% accuracy!

Sharon - Doesn't it sound perfect?

Richard - I'm good with that.  Any island in particular?

Christine,

Fabulous response.  I respond that I wish I knew, here are the local trends we are seeing, however, there are a number of factors that can send this either way, so I just don't know if we are at a final bottom or a temporary bottom.   My clients respect that, as I can't promise a bottom without that magic ball.

All the best, Michelle

Christine~I love your photo! I think the real estate industry put themselves in somewhat of a tough spot when for years they told the public that real estate is a good investment, and obviously that isn't the case in many areas of the country right now.

I believe in your approach, have people assess their needs and see what works for them. Getting people to realize all of the benefits of owning home, other just dollars and sense should be the focus.

Have an AWESOME day!

Christine, I'd tell them to do just what I did today....take a drive around and see all the Real Estate signs with and Under Contract sign beneath them....sales are good!

Richard -  I like the way you think.

Michelle - It's always that elusive ball, isn't it?

Stacey - You're right.  All we can do is hope they can hear us.

Michael - I think it makes sense for peopl to look at their own needs and wants as they decide if now is the right time.

Ellen - That's not a bad idea.
