The Deer were too close for comfort today in Red Hook

At midday today in Red Hook I got up for a break, looked out my window and very close to the

house were several deer.  I was rather surprised to see them at that time of the

day so I grab the camera.

How cute, I thought!

The warm fuzzy feeling did not last very long because the deer moved into my garden, so

I hurried outside to send them packing.

For the deer's sake I will make sure my husband doesn't find out where you live. He's been on to "camping" trips this year already. I hope he doesn't find this comment. LOL! ROFLMBO!

Jennifer, I have some clients who moved to the country a year ago, they love country living but also love to garden and have been trying to figure out how to get the deer to leave their garden alone.  Last year move of his garden was growing vertically rather than horizontally.

When I was traveling on the mainland, I was shocked how many deer I saw and many in heavily populated areas.  I even saw a dead buck on the side of the freeway in downtown Milwaukee.

Jennifer - Same problem on my end of the county.  They now blend in with their surroundings better, as well, so it's more difficult to see them when driving.

My garden is fenced. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing solution, but it keeps the deer out and my plants growing.

Randy - That was a common scene on my commuting route certain time of the year.  Sometimes I was trying to get around the dead animals without looking.  This was gross

Jonathan- No kidding there are many who would see it that way.

Joseph - I still remember my encounter with one of these creatures.  It came from out of nowhere and hit me before I even had time to break.  You cam imagine the damage, the worst was when I got home there was still a piece hanging from under the hood. I get a chill still thinking about it.

The area seems to provide the perfect environment for them. Very nice photos. They are ready for a Picture Post Card.

Jennifer, it's so hard not to like them- they really are adorable.  Did they run away when you came out, or stand there looking at you, like the deer around here do?  Honestly, if I wanted to pet one, I probably could, they're so relaxed around people here.

No bucks!  I had a poor hunting season in Hyde Park.  Call me when the bucks show up.  Only joking my children love the deer.  we actually have a feeder in the backyard so they come daily.

Rosario - I don't want to have a fence put I want to have healthy plants, I guest the deer are tell me i can't have it all.

Derrick - I agree the shots could be a perfect post card.  The deer could continue to roam on my property as long as they avoided my garden, that's too much to expect.

Laurie - That is a trend I have noticed maybe in the last 10 years, they stand their and stare at you or ignore your presence.  The ones in the photo went running because I yelled.

Jeffrey -  I don't feed them yet I can look out and there are a dozen deer.  Your children love them but be very careful of Lyme disease , I know how I spent last January with a pic line in my arm.

I enoy the beauty of wildlife, but they can be pests too.  My wife loves the rabbits and chipmunks that run around the yard.  I don't--chewed up wires are a pain to fix:)

We saw a dear in my yard today too.  I also pulled a tick off one of the kids. I could not believe it. I didn't know they were around during the winter.  I hate to shoo them but...

Jennifer, you always seem to have some of the best pictures. Unfortunately, it seems I only see deer when I am coming over a hill or around a curve and they are in the middle of the road! No accidents, but it makes me thankful for brakes, headlights, and horns!

Jennifer,

Those are some great photo's and I agree that they would make great post cards!  They must know where the good food is located!!!  Have a great New Year!

Sorry, they are cute, but in these parts they are good eating.  We had over 12 feet of snow last winter and the deer winter kill was so sad.  I don't feel guilty for the five that hit the freezer.  I'm a gardener too, so I love to watch deer, just not on my land.

Jim - I feel the same about the very sad wildlife.

Maureen - You have to be very careful with the children, if you have pets they can also bring in the ticks.  Lyme disease is serious business.

Stephen- the problem here is that sometime you don't see them, the collision happens before you had time to react.

Ray - Yes my Boxwood which I was told they were not suppose eat.,

Diane - You are right, I used them in a virtual card I sent to someone.

Debbie - When there is a severe winter many of them die from lack of food.
