Be Slightly Famous in 2008 for more than 15 seconds!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker

In the field of real estate there are so many people who do what we do, you need to find a way to make yourself stand out- or become slightly famous.

Branding is so important and many REALTORS skip over this important step.  Why not go the extra mile to set yourself apart? Although my favorite part of the real estate business is personal branding and I have yet to get it right.  After reading "Real Estate Branding - Rick and Ines Style" yesterday, I decided it was time to go back to the drawing board and try create my own brand.

Who knows, I may stare at my new brand today and decide it isn't quite right just yet but at least I have taken a step in the right direction.

Take your business seriously- you are working for YOU. When the consumer is sitting there facing a sea of REALTORS you want them to see your brand and recognize it.  Certainly it will take time to become a mini-celebrity in your area- start today!  Use your brand everywhere (be sure to use your picture as well) - on your website, your blog, advertisements, direct mail, EVERYEHERE, and see who recognizes you at the end of 2008!

Suggestions and comments on my work in progress appreciated!!  Feel free to share what you come up with for your own brand below!

I wrote a blog about this called Pearl Buck Willie Sutton.... On the back of my new cards it says," Serving and protecting the rights of Property owners."  I am pointing ourt and starting a dialogue about what we do as realtors that the public may not know. This is what I am using to differentiate myself

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

Kim--I use my photo as my 'brand' and DO get it out there as much as possible.  I have not ever created a logo, per se, but, I think that's probably because I'm not artistically talented!!!  Happy New Year!

OH, the 3rd word in your blog:  should it read 'field' not 'filed'?

Debe- you can do a lot with photoshop even if you are not "artistically talented".  You should check it out if you haven't already.

PS- fixed the typo- thanks!

One of the biggest mistakes I see new agents do is think they will stay with the same company for every and set up their business using a company e-mail and company website and they lose a lot of potential clients when they leave a company because their database no longer knows how to get a hold of them.

Kim -

You are definitely on the right path - get started creating a brand.

Keep the following in mind...

  • do you want to brand your name?
  • do you want to brand the work you do?
  • do you want to brand your specific specialty in your area?

These are all things to consider when choosing a brand.  Also, don't forget to come up with a tag line - something that lets people know why they should choose you over the other realtors courting them.  Like "Kim Carp - Everything you need to know to buy or sell in Lake Winnipesaukee!"

Good luck!  You're obviously off to a great start for 2008!
