GROWING FOOD AT HOME-ANOTHER GREAT REASON TO OWN A HOME
Joe writes a good artcle on gardening and I would like to follow up with here in Pensacola, Pace and Gulf Breeze we enjoy some of the most ideal weather and conditions for growing year around crops. I have found that most plants can thrive with the soil being as low as 55 degrees and that is the case for about 7 to 8 months of the year here. Planted right we can enjoy at least 2 growing seasons, such as planting corn 30 to 60 days apart, same with tomatoes and most other staples. I haven't got a handle on the 2 crop watermelon or cantaloupe but I am working it out. My organic garden used to be big enough to feed the neighborhood. It was sure a labor of love! Growing up on a dairy farm, I believed I could grow anything. I used to grow some exotic vegetables, well they didn’t always grow as I expected. So, after a while I had my favorites that always did well.
Over the years the size got smaller, but the joy of growing food that is not filled with chemicals and getting these fresh foods is just something real special.
