Total Eclipse of the Heart Sun - Speechless Sundays

Solar Eclipse

Today, we were excited to experience a solar eclipse.  Here in Costa Mesa, the sun was approximately 78% covered by the moon.  There were areas that were 85%, and still ours was amazing.

Unfortunately, the marine layer moved in about 10 minutes before the biggest part of the eclipse.  Even so, the kids and the adults found it an exciting experience.

Christine, those pictures are great... even considering the late weather problems.  And about the other... well, I had my heart "eclipsed" a very long time ago... and I have yet to recover.  I don't think I ever will.

Great photos... have a great week !

Karen Anne - It was a lot of fun, and very odd taking the photos with the filters and knowing it was light out even though the photos look like night.

As to the other, I'm sorry to hear that, and hope that some day the recovery will begin, even if it's not complete.

Bless your heart... that was very kind of you.  But, then again, you always have seemed to be a very thoughtful person.  Take care...

Karen Anne - You're welcome.

Tom - Thanks.  I created a filter from half a Pringles can covered by a mylar coating that I placed on my telephoto lens.  Put the whole thing on a tripod and set it up on manual focus and opened the aperature.

Well you did really good with that half a Pringles can covered with a mylar coating.  I put on 3 pairs of sunglasses and took a quick look at it, but didn't photograph it.  I just knew some of you would do a great job.

Good morning Karen. MacGyver would be proud knowing all you had to work with was a can of pringles and a paper clip. lol. . Might be the first actual pics of an eclipse by a Rainer. Nice job.

We had two weeks of sunny clear weather and then bang, the clouds rolled in and we didn't get to see a thing.

Hi Christine,

I had to go somewhere and picture taking was not on the agenda. It usually happens to me too; I get all ready and the cloud cover rolls in at the last minute but you did get a few good ones at the top. Have a great week.

Christine- sometimes I think half the fun is the anticipation and of doing something that involves the children getting to experience an event like this.
