Death by Cerebral Hemorrhoid!

I’ll bet you didn’t even know that was possible, did you. Okay, so maybe it’s not. Ben at Mill A

Our son, Ben’s teacher let me know that on his essay on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Ben reported that our president died from a cerebral hemorrhoid. Obviously he meant hemorrhage, but the boy is 11 so I can see how he could confuse the two words. Hemorrhoid, hemorrhage… and they do both involve blood vessels and, well, bulging.

Ben got an A on the paper anyway and when he verbally presented it to the class he got the word right. It’s a mistake I’m sure he’ll never make again.

And that got me thinking...

Ben was kind of embarrassed about the whole thing (It probably didn’t help that his mother posted it on Facebook). The adults in his life got a great laugh out of it. To us it was cute. To him it was a lesson he would never forget.

That’s what mistakes do for us. Teach us something that will stay with us for, hopefully, a long, long time. They aren’t especially something to be ashamed of and to regret. For they help to shape us into what we are.

What would we be without the mistakes that led us to where we are?

Oh, and in the process our mistakes might just lend a little humor to the lives of those around us!
