We Just Returned from the Memorial Day Services

What a somber beginning to the holiday. But, we wouldn't be enjoying this lovely day with our loved ones if it weren't for the brave men and women who defend our freedeom day in and day out.

Today, especially as the 257th Military Police Company ships out to Fort Bliss, Texas, and within weeks will depart for Afghanistan. There, the soldiers will train members of the Afghan National Army to operate a prison in the northeastern part of the country.

Please remember our military and emergency personnel with your thoughts today. Both the fallen who have given all, and the brave who continue to defend and serve our country.

May you all have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Land of the free because of the brave.

I just have to tell you this story

When I was living in a country where that "freedom" is not what we have here today

I distinctly remember walking form school one day and being detained by two detectives that though my long hair was grounds to be a suspicious person. .at 15?

They searched me, they search my bag and just let me go. . for no reason. .

But I remember how exactly I felt that day..

We have a number of veterans from all wars in Sherburne County who were honored today in Big Lake with the new memorial, too.

I know that we still have brave Minnesotans leaving to train troops in Afghanistan and hopefully we won't be in any new wars anytime soon.

Our local cemeteries were all decorated today. There were just beautiful. There were more people in them, then I've ever at any one time. It was nice to see, but kind of bitter sweet.
