Fun Times at Fletcher Hills Elementary

Fletcher Hills Elementary

I attended FletcherHillsElementary School back in the early 60’s, and have nothing but fond memories of the experience.  All the girls wore dresses, and the boys were mainly polite.  We had actual P.E., art, and music classes and the cafeteria served up warm food everyday.  Dr. Marks was principal and Miss Asbury was my favorite teacher.

Well, today FletcherHillsElementary School is still providing a great education to nearly 600 kids in grades 1 – 5.  The school is one of the highest ranking in the La MesaSpring ValleySchool District and has received great reviews from many parents.  There is also a great community pool and after-school recreation center that wasn’t yet built when I was a student there.

Yesterday the kids got to enjoy a bike rodeo and spirit day where they had the option of dressing in Hawaiian or other vacation attire.  6th Grade promotion will take place next Thursday the 14th at 8:30 a.m.  Last day of school is Friday, June 15th.  Classes will resume August 16th.

Here are some useful links to the school website and the PTA website.

FletcherHillsElementary School is located in Fletcher Hills at 2330 Center Place, El Cajon, CA92020.  The phone number is 619-668-5820.

Thanks Betty!  Just can't believe how much the school looks like it did way back when!

Marti: Ironic that you speak of your elementary years and mention what the kids wore back then.  My wife and I were doing the very same thing after watching a segment of the Dick Van Dyke show the other night.  Rob was the "Father of the Week" at Richie's school ... and we noted how the kids were so representative of what we each remembered of our school years.  Girls in dresses, little black shoes, white anklet socks.  Boys in cotton button-up shirts and actual leather shoes.  Ohhh how things have changed!  Good memories brought back, to be sure ... but I'm thinking wearing a Hawaiian shirt could have been pretty fun ...

For all the "Boomers" on AR ...

Aw Gene, brings back some great memories doesn't it?  Remember how simple life was for kids?  I look at my grand kids and just wonder about what their elementary school experience will be like.  And then one day, they'll be looking back....My first born, beautiful daughter is meeting with her college girl firends tomorrow and all of their assorted children to celebrate their 10 year anniversary since graduating!  Between remembering my elementary school days, and being in denial about the fact that my baby has been out of college for 10 years...I'm feeling kinda old!!!
