Ronda brings up a topic that is near and dear to me - gardening at home, especially vegetables.  If you have the space and the desire, a vegetable garden may be just the rewarding project for you and your family or neighbors.  And there is nothing like the taste of freshly grown vegetables to make a good meal.

Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide. On Earth Day, we remember to appreciate nature and learn ways to protect our environment. It was born so to speak in 1970. It is a celebration of Earths birthday and is celebrated around the world by over 100 countries. We always celebrate it on April 22nd. Just in time for us to enjoy and see the beauty of spring.

Today in Spokane is our first great spring day so we are celebrating Earth day by preparing our family garden. We always use organic and natural fertizers and very rarely have to use any bug killers and if we do they are always natural and organic. I just purchased 30 bags of good old composted steer manure and I can guarantee that our ground will really love it and so will the plants.

We have had to build up this garden spot as it is only our 2nd year to grow a garden on this land. We have had to amend this soil with lots of organic matter to build it back up. The previous owners thought that killing all of the weeds would be easier than actually pulling them up and unfortuanatly it also killed the natural organisms in the soil and pretty much sterilized it. Sterile is Ok for Hospitals but not for your garden. We are now seeing earth worms come back, they are great little earth tillers and help to break down the organic matter, leaves and grass clippings that we have put on our garden plot. We also use a compost pile and put all of our natural organic food waste,( Potato peels, bananas, vegetable and fruit peels, coffee grounds etc). All that good stuff, that is still full of important nutrients our body uses to be healthy will breaks down and then it all goes back into the ground and we get to eat it again, and the cycle goes on.
If you have space at your home to put in a garden you will love the bounty that your little "space of earth" gives back to you.'

If you want to own a home now is the time to buy one. Happy Earth Day may we have many more.
