Love this blog. Reading is my passion, too, and I average 2 to 3 novels a week, some "fluff" and some literature. I can't get enough. I just got a Nook for Christmas and love it, although still enjoy the feel (and smell) of "real" books, too. Anyone, including any child, who reads well can't help but do well. Knowledge is power.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all teachers concentrated on teaching kids to read. Without reading skills, there's not much hope of learning or keeping up with the rest of the class. Reading, writing and math skills have been neglected and we need to make sure these skills are the focus of school curriculum.
I listen to books on CD in my car, read hard and paperbacks and have a kindle DX - I just finished The Corleone Family on CD and am on to a Deaver Kathryn Dance novel...
Gretchen - Great sentiments. So much information exists in writing. A lot of my books re in the used category and make up the biggest backlog. I am over 11"3" behind with them.
Doug - thanks for pointing out modern day challenges. I have seen the effects of non-reading on a lot of people who might have done better with more reading skills. I have tutored adults in reading with great results. It all starts with enthusiasm.
Wallace - great use of time. I have enjoyed lots of literature in spoken form over the years and still indulge occasionally. Sometimes listening has led me to reading the work as well.
