Decimate is the new word of the day.

Okay people I’ll give you that one of the meanings is a famine etc.  but do you know the rest of the meanings for the word of the day?  Stay tuned and learn how the English language is such a wonderful thing.  Do you need another moment or two to search your memory bank?  Tick-tock, tick-tock time is up so the meaning of (des’ e mat’) is to select by lot and kill every tenth one.  Who the h - -l thought that one up?  Enjoy the day

I believe it was the Romans who thought that up. It was a form of punishment used to keep their slaves in control. Actually one of my pet peeves is when that word is mis-used in sporting commentary as being synonymous with "beating the heck outta".

Great "word" posting for the day, James.  I wonder if the New Orlean's Saints, took that word to a new meaning with the "bounty" issues of today.... sorry Malcom, I used sports to promote my comment!

I think it was the Romans who did that...when they won a battle they would teach the world not to challenge their rule buy punishing he defeated by killing every tenth surviving soldier.
