D Magazine Ranks Highland Village #2 Best Suburb!

Not that I am surprised, but D Magazine's annual list of the Best Suburbs in Dallas has the city I call home listed as #2!

Hot Air Balloon

There are many reasons I love calling Highland Village home.  How many people can see a hot air balloon flying over their house?! Here's my top five list of why if you're considering a move to the Dallas area, you need to first think about Highland Village.

  1. Location.  Dallas is a big place but living in Highland Village gives you a central location that affords you the opportunity to be almost anywhere you want within an hour drive.  You can take in a Cowboys game, racing at Texas Motor Speedway, kayaking on the lake, shopping at the Galleria or gambling just over the Oklahoma border.  So not only is lifestyle not a question, but also proximity to our own local amenities is a huge advantage.  It takes me less than five minutes to get to Wal-Mart, the movies, dinner or a doctor.  DFW International is a straight-shot down 2499 and takes about 25 minutes to get there.
  2. Low Crime Rate.  For the past decade, Highland Village has been rated as the "Safest City in North Texas" and has also been named the "Safest City in Texas" with populations more than 10,000 but less than 100,000.  Residents take advantage of lower insurance costs because of this rating too.  With a visible and active police department including assigned AOR's (area of responsibility) officers that are responsible for certain streets and neighborhoods, the crime rate is virtually non-existent.  And don't think about speeding in Highland Village.  You will learn the hard way!
  3. Outstanding Schools.  When we moved to Highland Village, we definitely considered the quality of the schools even though we had no children.  Seven years and three kids later, we are experiencing first hand the fantastic teachers, administrators and school board members.  I love to see my tax dollars at work when the school bus stops outside our house every morning, taking my daughter to a school she loves to attend with teachers she loves more. We are truly blessed with caring, nurturing and demanding teachers who do their very best to inspire and teach the next generation!
  4. Lifestyle.  We had no idea that when we moved to Castlewood, a neighborhood of under 380 homes, that we would make such great friends and enjoy everyday living so much!  We are going through the same stage of life as our friends with kids in school, activities to keep us busy and having "cul-de-sac parties" to give both kids and adults something to do.  We have a very active neighborhood with Halloween parties that are more for the parents then the kids (I spilled my wine on the stroller two years ago!).  The Shops at Highland Village is a common place to find families or parents for date night.  With businesses like AMC Theaters, Blue Goose, Banana Republic, and Barnes and Noble, entertainment is not a problem.  If you enjoy the outdoors, you won't be disappointed either.  Lewisville Lake is a hugely popular recreation venue with plenty of spaces for camping, boating, kayaking or jet ski activities.  There's nearby horseback riding and mountain biking trails too.
  5. Housing.  With house prices starting around the $150,000 range for an older, ranch style home all the way to multi-million dollar luxury estates, you can find a home that suits your needs and desires.  The median sales price of homes is at $295,000, a price range that affords you nice amenities and packages #1-4 nicely to make Highland Village a truly unique and fantastic place to call home.

I was honored to be selected for the second straight year to the list of D Magazine's "Best Realtors" in the Dallas area.  This is an award presented to less than 2% of the agents in the city.

If you are considering moving to the Highland Village area, please call, text or email me so I can tell you more about the fabulous city I live in!
