Many years ago, Jean was a single mother with two very young children, a mortgage, and an ex-husband who refused to pay child support despite the court orders. And the sink clogged.
You should know that Jean is relatively competent - aside from being a part time Realtor (#1 in Clark, NJ!) and a full time 7th grade science teacher, she has her Master's Degree (and then some) and is also a volunteer EMT. But a plumber she is not.
But, in our story many years ago, there was no money for plumbing. None. There was no fat in the budget to trim to pay for a plumber.
Luckily, Jean was part of a chain of extremely strong women. So she did something that terrified her. She searched in the pile of old tools in her basement for something that looked like it could take apart sink pipes (she later learned that the object she found was called a monkey wrench - who knew?) and proceeded to take apart the sink pipes (they probably also have names, but that's beyond the scope of this post).
And found the clog. And cleaned it.
And fixed the sink problem. By herself. Without a plumber.
And thus today's lesson is - Do something you've never done before, even if (especially if?) it scares you. You'll learn more about yourself and your abilities than you ever imagined. And conquering something, even if it's as trivial as a clogged pipe, will give you the confidence you need to do something else you're afraid of. And so on, and so on, and so on.
What are you doing today that scares you?
