North Beach Provincial Park

north beachNorth Beach Provincial Park is one of the great locations in Prince Edward County that makes this county such a popular summer time destination in southern Ontario. The beach here is very similar to the one at Sandbanks Provincial Park, just not as large, and it doesn't get as crowded on hot days. It is still a large beach though, and it features over 3 kilometers of sand.

One of the special things about North Beach is that it's more or less a large strip of land with water on both sides. One side fronts onto Lake Ontario while the other side fronts onto the much gentler North Bay. Simply hop across the sand dunes and voila, more beach.

This is a great place for family outings in the summer time. There's lots of parking, and the park is set up with tables, shady spots, toilets and change rooms. Since it rarely gets the publicity and attention that Sandbanks does, it's usually never terribly crowded either.

The water in the bay is very calm, so it's perfect for boating, fishing, sailing and all those other neat water craft sports. There's even a public boat launch on the bay, so bring your boat next time you come down.

north beachThere is no camping at North Beach though, so when it gets dark you'll have to clear out and find something else to do in Prince Edward County. No worries though, there's always plenty to do and see around here.

North Beach is about a half hour drive south of the 401 along Loyalist Parkway (Highway 33). It's very easy to get to, and it's a place that you won't regret visiting.

Oh, that looks like a great place to have a picnic, hang out with some friends, and maybe a couple of root beers on a sunny afternoon.  Thanks for the great pictures and wonderful description, Malcom.

Malcolm, this is a great localism post.  We are often in Canada, Ontario in particular, and I would like to see this if we can squeeze it in in the spring or summer or fall.
