Texas Tax Free Weekend 2012 August 17-19
What is Tax Free Weekend? It's a weekend in August every year where the stores do not charge any taxes on shoes and clothing over $100. That doesn't mean your purchase can't be over $100. That means you can't buy designer jeans for $150 and expect them to be tax free. Other things on the tax free list besides clothes are things you need for school like Backpacks, Calculators, and Notebooks,
Interesting note is that if you have a business credit card that is used in the purchase, you actually have to provide an exemption certificate that certifies you are buying these items for an elementary or secondary school student. I've never heard of this rule before, but maybe too many companies were stocking up on office suplies each year and they needed a way to stop that.
Remember, for every $100, you're saving only about $8 on your purchase. Not much? Many stores compound Tax Free Weekend with an end of Summer clearance event so be prepared for other discounts like 30-50% off at many stores.
Shop responsibly!! Don't spend more than what you can afford!!
