I had a good friend come over to pick up some local real estate information for her parents. After a few minutes talking at the door about kids, school, what's for dinner - really anything but real estate, my friend said, "I tried to get my mom to come in with me, but she doesn't want to feel pressure to buy a home from you."
Remember, we weren't even out looking at houses, we were in my entry way! I can't even image her perception of REALTORS if she'd rather sit in the car than come in my house. I'm sure she just had a bad experience once - it only takes one pushy sales person to give us all a bad name.
Here is my theory on "selling" houses to buyer clients. I don't. I provide clients with ample information: current market conditions, community issues, property history, and school data. I match homes on the market to my buyers needs and take them to see only the properties that fit. I point out the assets of the home, but I also use my years in the business to see a home's drawbacks. I've even told clients when a house isn't for them.
Buying a home is a totally personal and emotional decision. Nothing I say will make a client fall in love with a property. You can't make someone buy their largest investment; the place where they will entertain friends and raise families.
This is my job: I'm here to help the client find a home that fits their needs and wants. I can help put together a team of professionals (inspectors, lawyers, mortgage brokers) to make the home buying process smooth and stress-free.
So please, don't be afraid to come in and talk to me. I won't pressure you to buy anything you don't want.
