Milford, Prince Edward County

milford prince edward countyPrince Edward County has a number of rural villages and hamlets where the pace of life seems a little less rushed and things don't change very quickly. When you start driving into the more southern parts of the County it can almost feel like stepping back in time. The roads are a little narrower and less straight, you won't come across franchised stores or restaurants, and you'd better make sure your tank has some gas in it, as there are some stretches where you won't encounter a gas station.

Luckily enough, the village of Milford does have a gas station, so if you're in the area and running low on gas, head for Milford. While you're there, you might as well stop in at the Milford Bistro and grab a bite to eat. If you are going to stop for dinner though, it would be wise to phone ahead, it can get pretty busy, especially in the summer time. The Bistro serves locally grown food, and that's a very populamilford prince edward countyr draw. The ambience is great and the people are friendly. There is usually something going on at the Milford Bistro that will attract a crowd.

Presently Milford is a bit of an artisan's dream with the Long Dog winery, The Black River Cheese Company, and the French Country Farmhouse, all within walking distance of the Village, but this isn't the way it used to be. Milford (or Port Milford as it was once known) was once a very busy hub of commercial activity with a shipyard, a cannery, warehouses, granaries, mills, and many other complimentary businesses. During the Barley Days of Prince Edward County this place was quite thmilford prince edward countye going concern. When those prosperous days ended, the town migrated away from the water, and the original Port Milford is now a ghost town, while the current Milford may be home to a couple of hundred people.

You might want to bring a picnic lunch if you happen to be driving through Milford because there's an awesome place to stop and sit for a while. The Milford Mill Pond Conservation Area is a 30 acre facility with picnic tables and other facilities. It's at the location where the historic Scott's Mill used to be. There's a pond, a dam, and plenty of views. It makes for a nice quiet stop along the way. If you happen to be in the mood for an unrushed Sunday drive, I can't think of a better place to visit than Milford.

Thanks Chris, the bonus is that I can tweak some of these blog posts and turn them into a "community page" on my website with a local map showing nearby listings. there's a method to this madness :-)

Hi Al and Peggy, it's pretty easy really, just change the wording a bit, add a bit more information to the shorter blog posts, add a realbird map to it and you end up with a page like this http://www.trenton-real-estate.ca/Batawa-Real-Estate that shows up in the search engines.

Milford sounds charming, Malcolm.  And since we would be driving on our little tour up there, maybe we can make a day of that area, too!
