A Time to Remember 9/11
This is by far one of the best 9/11 posts I have seen on Active Rain this AM so I wanted to share it. It is a days that most of us will never forget. Hope you have a peaceful day today.
A Time to Remember 9/11.
We all remember where we were when we heard the news about the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93. The loss of life was tremendous and it put international relationships in serious jeopardy.
It’s been eleven years since that tragic event took place that changed the way we Americans look at almost everything. It is a time to remember 9/11.
We longer can board a plane without critical scrutiny. Most of the State and Federal buildings require personal screenings. Luggage and packages are x-rayed and metal detected. Public entertainment and sports events even require pat downs and screenings of all personal items. ID’s are checked and rechecked and it is a lot tougher to get an ID now than it ever was before. So many things have changed and made our lives more difficult. But we are willing to be hassled and inconvenienced so we can do our part so that a breach of our homeland’s security and safety will never occur again.
Oh so much has changed. We have been changed and we cannot, nor will we ever go back. We cannot reclaim the lives of the men and women who had no idea that that day was their last day. We cannot change the impact it had on the families that lost loved ones. We cannot forget the sacrifices of so many first responders and others that helped to save lives at the risk of losing theirs. And some, a whole lot of them lost their lives trying to save the lives of others, the strangers they did not know.
We now share a common bond with a new appreciation for those that choose this type of profession, to protect us at home and abroad. Thanks to those that sacrifice by putting themselves in harm's way and the sacrifices they and their families make because of a strong commitment to our country.
It is a time to remember 9/11. But have we or will we ever really forget?
