Public Radio Introduced Me to LAGQ, Now It's My Turn..Monday Melodies

Public radio and public television are often the first and only exposurguitar musice many people have to the arts.  It would be worse than a shame if either entity ever lost even the minimal funding they get through the government.  In my opinion, early exposure and appreciation of music, art and literature are essential contributors to a civilized society and may be a strong incentive for some people to find their paths to a better life.  It will be a sad day if our government (the people) do not help provided equal and easy access to each other a chance to share in these treasures.

Commercial television and radio has never and will never make that effort.  I for one rejoice in a portion of my taxes being used for PUBLIC radio and PUBLIC television, it is an investment for our citizens that makes sense.

Years ago, I heard a selection by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet on Public Radio in Tampa, Florida and it was as if a window was thrown wide open into the world of guitar music for me.  I'll probably never play (although I own a guitar) but this type of music is one of my great loves.  I'm hoping you'll give yourselves 5 minutes today to take a listen and then seek out some of their other work too.  Enjoy Pachelbal's Loose Canon and I hope this week brings you just as many wonderful surprises as this music does.

Mona - I too hope that the arts survive the coming budget crunches. I own three guitars, took over a year of lessons, and can proudly say that these guitars do the best job of collecting dust in the house. I wish someone had told me that you need to practice to be able to play! Oh well. I still pick them up occassionally, lovingly dust them off, tune them up, and put them back down.

Peter, thank you for your comment.  The arts are disappearing from regular school curriculum and that is disastrous enough but if children can't be exposed to them in school they need another avenue.  The arts help us dream and dreaming helps us succeed.

Roger, methinks you did an edit and I'm glad of it.  I think you are more than funny...people can't be funny without being intelligent first!  I'm glad you liked today's selection...I liked that they called it Loose Canon, lol.

Gay, we've been listening to live streaming reports on the hurricane...I hope everyone and their pets fare well during this storm.  I'm happy that you enjoyed the music.

Yes, the "BIG" idea of doing away with funding for Public Radio would cause the Dept of Defense approx. six whole hours of spending.  OMG! How would they make due.  Maybe they could sell a few of there $30,000 dollar toilets.  Give me a civilized society any day.
