GRADING HAS BEGAN AT THE SITE OF THE ST MARY'S GOOD SAMARITAN

Lake Oconee residents that droved by Lake Oconee Parkway last week were treated to the sight of huge equipment being moved into position to start grading for St. Mary’s Good Samaritan replacement hospital. Grading began on the 24- acre site. Contractors begin moving dirt on the site where the new hospital will be at.

The state of Georgia has approved Good Samaritan’s Notice of Intent to begin construction, so all regulatory hurdles have been cleared. Also, recent dry weather has allowed preparations to go forward right on schedule.

Earl Architects has been making good progress on final designs.. If the weather remains good this fall, contractors expect to begin pouring concrete for the hospital’s foundations before the end of the year. The hospital is on track for opening by early 2014.

The two-story, 75,000-square-foot critical access replacement hospital is being built on Lake Oconee Parkway between Carey Station Road and Westlake Road.

The Planned features include, all private rooms with telemetric patient monitoring, 24/7 emergency services with additional patient care rooms for increased capacity, Emergency stroke capabilities in conjunction with Georgia Health Sciences University’s REACH program, cardiac diagnostics, including stress testing and vascular imaging, advanced imaging, including digital mammography, x-ray, MRI and the only 64-slice CT scanner in the tri-county area, multiple surgical suites with state-of-the-art technology, enhanced medical services in cooperation with area physicians, rehabilitative services, including physical, occupational and speech-language therapy and a swing bed program for extended inpatient rehab care, sleep disorders and laboratory services, and enhanced visitor and staff accommodations, including a larger chapel and full-service cafeteria.

St. Mary’s and its parent organization, Catholic Health East, are covering construction costs for the new replacement hospital, estimated to be approximately $40 million. The costs of furnishing and equipping the new hospital will be funded by the generous support of private donors throughout the communityLake Oconee real estate
