Vote

How many times have we heard this uttered by someone - I don't vote because...  Don't miss the opportunity to make your voice heard today.  Remember, if you don't exercise your right to vote - you can't complain about the outcome!  Regardless of what you might think, every vote counts.  Don't think that you might just be cancelling out a spouses vote, or that your state is already locked (Democrat or Republican).   This is your time to make your voice heard, and to tell all of the politicians what you really think - EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Not sure where To Vote in Texas?

On your Voter Registration certificate, you will see a precinct number. Your residence is located in a specific “precinct” or area within the county where you will vote on Election Day. In some cases, precincts may be combined to accommodate joint local elections, so always consult your County Elections Office in the days before an election for the address of the polling place where you’re to vote.

And, most newspapers print precinct polling places and addresses in the days before an election. If your county has supplied www.VoteTexas.org with its polling place information, you can also find that information by clicking here: County Precincts and Polling Place Addresses.

Good morning Wayne,

Excellent point - we won't be able to dump the Electoral College until/unless the popular vote does its job.  Everyone, GO VOTE!

Good morning Sheila,

I am not surprised that we agree (!)  If someone is not going to spend the time to be informed and vote, then I simply do not have the time to spend listening to them complain!

Lisa -- thank you for the very pertinent comments on this very important topic.   For those who think their one vote won't make a difference -- we can look at the 1960 Presidential election, where the popular vote was about 118,000 difference between John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon.  As there are more than 150,000 precincts in the US - one additional vote in each precinct for Mr. Nixon, would have given him the popular vote total, and may have changed the outcome of the election completely.

Lisa:  Yes... we SHOULD know what we need to do for the next four years... and that is to make some meaningful compromises so our beloved country can move forward.

And... regarding Wayne's comment above... President Obama led in both the Electoral College and the popular vote.  Two for two ain't bad.

Lisa, After every election there is always a little discussion about the electoral college and eliminating it. In my opinion our founders were actually brilliant setting up the electoral college so the whole country is represented. I live in a big state and a big city with a large population. Eliminating the electoral college would be in my best interest and in the best interest of densley populated locations but not the best interest of the entire country. NYC has more people than 10-15 red states put together.

The same reason our founders gave every tiny little state two Senators (some people are opposed to that too) is the same reason for the electoral college. The entire country is represented. The founders gave extra power to small states as a buffer to population.

You're in Dallas Texas, I'm in NY NY without the electoral college there may not be swing states but the states with large populations NY, Texas, California and Florida would then be able to decide national elections with out the rest of the country.

Hello Karen Anne,

You may have thought I was being ungracious, I wasn't - simply stating we know who the winner is, and thank goodness it was decisive and not drawn out as elections past.

In regards to compromise, yes - that concept would be refreshing...as would be a President following the Constitution and putting forth a budget, among other things.

Hello Mitchell,

We will just have to agree to disagree, I believe (as do many) that the Electoral College is unnecessary and outdated.  With modern technology everyone has a voice, and the popular vote should decide who oversees the nation.

Lisa:  First of all, I did not think you were being ungracious.  If I did, I would have plainly, yet politely, said so.

Secondly... compromise does NOT only involve one person... as you have suggested President Obama following the Constitution (which I believe he already does)... and about the budget.  Compromise involves two or more sides, with EACH side giving up some of the things they really want... in order to be able to move forward.

Compromise is NOT the idea of telling someone to "be reasonable, do it my way."

Good morning Karen Anne,

And plain speaking is one of the reasons we get along here in the rain!

Compromise does involve interaction with more than one person; however, the President has demonstrated that he is as woefully lacking in this trait as most politicians are on any side of the fence.  As an Independent, I am tired of both of the so called "parties" as I believe both the Republicans and the Democrats have sold the American public down the proverbial creek.

In regards to the budget, you might find this article from CNN interesting: http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/29/opinion/johnson-budget/index.html

It points out that the President has been unable to get a single vote from his own party for his budget proposals, and continues to run our country without a budget.

Every vote counts, whether you are voting for the "winner" or the "loser" or a third party candidate with no chance to win. Why? Because the act of voting is a vote for voting! Protect your right simply by exercising it.
