Are you one of those? I admit that for a while I was one as well. But it eventually dawned on me that I am a professional just like everyone else like me in the business world and if I want to be treated as such I better start owning up to what I am proudly, regardless of what the general public feels about us.
I have found that if you look someone straight in the eye and announce matter of factly that you are a realtor they seem to gain a higher level of respect for you. Heck, I can see it in their eyes. You know that they respect you too when they ask you a legitimate real estate related question as a follow up too. Like, "How do you feel the election will effect the housing market?" Not something generic like, "How is the housing market?" Give them a good answer and you have made a friend for life.
I am not out to judge everyone, but if you consider yourself to be a good, solid realtor then there is no reason to not let the world know. It's not just about numbers in this business. The average consumer wants to see confidence in their agent. If you are not proud of what you do it will show and you will probably not get the listing. One fact I do know is this; I am as good a realtor as anyone else in the business, if not better, and those who hire me will no doubt be very glad they did so when all is said and done. If you can look in the mirror and tell yourself that every day, then there is no reason why everyone else shouldn't feel the same way about you.
