Political Commentary...and Mortgage Projections for 2013

Well, as I sit here and read what's going in DC (re: the "fiscal cliff") and all the things that are going on to deal with this issue (and all the things that are NOT being handled; can you say $7/gallon MILK!)... it makes me sad for this country.

As an Immigrant (from Holland aka The Netherlands), I really Appreciate all the opportunities we have here, but it is almost unbelieveable how there can be such a stalemate on such critical issues - from our elected "representatives"!

I am a fiscal conservative and social moderate; but someone who has learned that I can't always get what I want when I want it; hopefully people of good conscience and intent will resolve these large issues in a peaceful, bipartisan manner. (I am so tired of the bickering and sniping at each other there). Let's agree to disagree but also to compromise and move forward. Let us please DECIDE and live with the consequences, so that business and financial leaders can make their decisions (so that they KNOW "what" to expect!).

Re: Mortgage Rates in 2013 - don't expect major movement; there will probably be a slight uptick, once the fiscal cliff negotiations settle down and there is bipartisan support for this relatively "small" bill (many major issues are not being addressed here; basically extending tax cuts on the middle class and extending unemployment benefits). The "sequester" is not really being dealt with (i.e., major mandatory spending cuts) nor are milk subsidies.

Homeownership will continue to be more affordable now than in many years (with rates below 3.50% on 30 year fixed conventional and FHA/VA mortgages).

Texas remains a great place to buy and sell real estate - as the employment market (at least here in Houston) continues strong and vibrant. 2013 portends more of the same. Some areas (like The Woodlands and Spring) are hotbeds of activity (some properties sold as soon as they are listed on the MLS!).

So much for all the Commentary...

Happy Holidays to all!

Let's pray for a more harmonious political climate where bipartisan support for what is in the best interests of this great nation can take precedence over political posturing.
