As a Westchester County interior decorator, I work with clients who just want their "looks" refreshed. It's been years since they've picked out furniture, the kids have grown and all moved out, and their rooms just look worn and tired. Now empty nesters, these clients want to entertain their friends but are embarrassed that their homes are caught in a time warp and don't announce their confidence and vitality. Sound familiar?
One such client recently found me on Angie's List. After an in-home consultation, I realized that she really liked her furniture and her floor plan but was ready to embrace a more sophisticated and exciting palette. Diagnosis? A FACELIFT! The cure? New carpeting, a new sofa, re-upholstery for a wing chair and glider, and new window treatments to reinforce our color choices.
Her old look-meek and shy and very matchy matchy! Her new look - textured neutrals and splashes of black. Now, her collection of china really "pops" - no longer lost in a sea of blue carpet! The wing chair makes a bold statement and works beautifully with the houndstooth check fabric we used on the glider. Hard cornices in a quilted black silk, embroidered with yellow bumblebees add whimsy to the room, and custom pillows create continuity throughout the space.
The client is delighted and her husband is so thrilled that he has given us permission to move on to the dining room. Round two, coming right up!
