We have declared McCain the winner and Mr.. Mitt is 2nd. Our Governor Crist and State Senator Mel Martinez both endorsed him.
But the most profound for all of us is the apparent change to the constitution to reduce our property taxes. Sounds nice right. It is strongly supported by the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors http://www.gtar.org/
It could help our depressed real estate market. In a nut shell it means only a couple of hundred dollars of savings a year It offers portability for our homestead exemption. Good thing right? It only helps those that have been in there homes a long time. It does nothing to the in-equalities of taxation. A long time resident lives in a home valued at 300k might pay 3k in taxes while the buyer who moved in last month may pay up to 4 x's that amount.
Worst of all the assessed values are artificially high because of the rapid increase in values. You will see actual market values below assessed values very soon. The scare to vote for the Amendment was that public services would suffer. All the while there is school closings through out the state.
