Pompano Beach's Pines Golf Course officially reopens Wednesday, after being closed since April 2012 for a redesign by a world-renowned firm that has done courses in Dubai, Australia and South Africa.
The course, one of two owned by the city, was revamped by Greg Norman Golf Course Design, which has designed or redesigned 76 courses around the world since 1987.
Pompano's public courses cost anywhere from $25 to $65 to play, depending on the time of year, the time of day and whether you rent a cart.
The new course, which is next to the other municipal course, the Palms, features new Celebration Bermuda turf and irrigation, improvements that should keep the course playable and keep maintenance costs down. It also includes a complete redesign of the first three holes, reshaped greens and reshaped sand traps.
