In December, across the country, home prices jumped by the most in 6 1/2 years, prompted by low housing inventory and rising demand for homes. Home prices rose 8.3 percent when compared to a year earlier; the biggest annual gain since May 2006.
These steady increases are helping fuel the real estate market – many homeowners are feeling it is a good time to sell, and many buyers are looking to purchase homes before prices rise even further. Most economists are predicting that prices will continue to rise during 2013. Adding to the demand for housing are the record-low mortgage rates and steady increases in employment across the country.
