Not all agents are created equal...

By
Real Estate Agent with Urban Acres Real Estate

Buyers Beware:

 Not all agents are created equal. Although the previous statement should not be held in the same esteem as the discovery of electricity, it certainly needs to be said. Just like every profession, real estate has it's share of bad apples. I'm fortunate to work in a community that promotes ethical behavior and don't often run into trouble with other agents in that area, but rest assured-there are people out there that will be less than honest to get a deal done. Make sure that your agent is treating you with the respect you deserve and keeping your interests in mind at all times. February is now here...and it's still cold & snowing in Iowa. Old Man Winter needs to get a hobby.

Mike,

Just like a slice of everyday life...our industry has its good and bad......our hope it that the bad are far out numbered by the good.

Take personal responsibility to do your part to keep the ethics in your business and be an example to others.

We have been spared here is the Philly market so far.....I am sure we will have a few snowy days before it is all over.....in the 50"s this weekend.

Thanks for the post-I think your right-WE need to take it upon ourselves to encourage the right way to conduct business. Snowing today in Iowa City AGAIN. This winter has been long-I'm looking forward to Springtime. Thanks again~

Hi Michael;

I like working with ethical agents much more than not. I have dealt with a few that were less than above board ... just sucks the fun right out of the job. Fortuneatly the majority of folks in the business have plans for repeat business and clients. A wise man once said: ' A happy customer will tell one or two people ...an unhappy one will tell everybody!'

I have a friend in central Oregon that told me that she had 4 feet of snow as of yesterday and snow is predicted for the next 10 days. Wow! We have had a coulpe of light dustings here in Hiawassee.

Mike - What an important statement that is.  Unfortunately, most consumers believe that we're all alike.  As REALTORS®, we must constrantly demonstrate superior service and skills to set ourselves apart.  Excellent, concise post!

Thanks for all of the comments-just FYI, we had another 9 inches of snow last night & more to come tomorrow. Got to love the Midwest winters.

I am glad I do not live in your area. But here is a farming tip. I read it somewhere. An agent went door to door when there was several inches of snow in his neighborhood.He caught most people at home and they always remembered that he was hard working and had come  out in the snow. You might want to try it.

Great idea although I simply can't do the door to door thing...that is a last resort deal for me and thankfully it looks like I'll never have to do it. I wouldn't want anybody to just show up ay my door-so that is my reasoning.

I was a police officer for 17 years.  In the justice system there were bad cops, bad judges, bad lawyers, bad secretary's, bad dispatchers, bad city clerks, bad city workers, bad politicians but they were few and far between.  I find exactly the same in real estate, there is the occasional comment made that makes you run on a dead sprint the other way because you know you don't want anything to do with that.  Its all over, its in every facet of life, every profession in every town, in every state, county, and continent.
