What's the scoop with Reynen and Bardis Community?

A little bird told me that Reynen and Bardis Community is in trouble here in Reno, NV?  Their sales offices were closed for the holiday and never reopened.  I heard of this news about three weeks ago.

A local journalist contacted me to poke around a little.  She also said that she saw a blog in Active Rain about it.  I did not post this said blog.  I didn't tell her anything of course because I am not aware of all the details.

The model homes at "The Estates" are now in MLS.  It says that it is under Chapter 40 pending litigation.  I am not sure what it all entails but I saw online that it is due construction defects.  Someone even mentioned that they are in the verge of bankruptcy.

Picture below was provided by my talented friend Ken Terry (775) 772-7031. Check out my other blogs for more photos of Reno, NV.

Which community initiated the class action lawsuit? So, what's the scoop?

The above statement may lead people to believe that Reynen's problems are a result of certain soil types in
Rancho Murietta. This is not true as homes in Wallace, Bakersfield, and Nevada have similar problems. Cutting corners and altering the architectural plans for the homes and using unlicensed contractors are the reasons for the failures in Wallace not soil types.

Also telling people to "cut their losses" is unrealistic. The homes here are already worth 1/2 of the sale price. Anyone who put up a substantial downpayment is probably unable to walk away especially retirees.

I haven't heard about the other projects until reading these blogs and can't vouch for the problems there, but someone lashing out about altering plans and unlicensed contractors is ignorant and without any proof is just rude.  But since I am not involved or have no proof you aren't correct in your insinuations I will just say that all of my encounters with the superintendents of Reynen And Bardis have proven to me they do not and would not hire unlicensed contractors.  I hope this economy can be turned around and am looking forward to the day we can all begin showing a profit again.  This country is still the leader of the free world and it is business and the pursuit of wealth that creates jobs and builds this nations economy!

It was mentioned in one of the blogs that there 21 homes in the Estates at Mt. Rose that have concrete slab flooring issues.  What are the 21 homes?  We are considering buying a resale in that neighborhood and would appreciate any information on which homes have problems before we close escrow.

Thank you.

The attorney's name is at the end of the above posting including his bar # and phone number.  good luck to your client. there may be more information in the Sacramento bee (newspaper) online. Put Reynen in the search and it brings up lots of information.  Good Luck to your client as reynen is going to be allowed to keep a 2.9 million dollar home.

Many thanks for this Blog, Catherine! Its great to see some local input.

I'm a R&B homeowner and I also received the personal bankruptcy notices for both Reynan and Bardis respectively in late October of this year.  I haven't been able to find out much about it in regards to what a homeowner should be doing in this situation.  I did call the lawyer's number that was included in the letter and was told that it was just a notice regarding the individuals' bankruptcy and that the due date of Nov 15 was for any claims against the two men themselves.  Also if there were any claims filed, that the lawyers most likely would file a stop claim on those.

After reading some articles regarding the problems in California, I did check with the HomeBuyersWarrenty company (the 2-10 coverage) to ensure that I was listed as having coverage.  (That's something to check for if you haven't already)  They told me that  even if the builder goes out of business, they are responsible for the structural soundness of the home - so for any foundation or frame problems, the homeowner would call them directly regardless of the builder being in business or not.

Not sure sure of what else should be done in situations like this... Retaining a lawyer is fairly expensive.

This blog seems to be pretty active - What have other locals done in this situation?

I have heard that Remuda and Stage Coach communities have been sold and that they are moving furniture back in to the models. Does anyone know who the new builder is?

Artisan Communities.  Be aware as this is another new entity that the old R&B crew has established for the purposes of buidling new homes in Sac and Reno.  They have simply lowered the RB flag and and will shortly be flying the Artisan Flag.

Francis Furtado is the President of Homebuilding Operations (Former RB Executive)

Kerrie Miller is the VP of Sales and Marketing (Former RB Manager)

Randy McReynolds VP of Homebuilding Operations Northern Nevada (Former RB Manager)

Androo Allen is the Director of Customer Care for the old RB  (Warranty/Construction Defects) and is still managing the defect claims and law suits with local (NV based) counsel.

P.S. How come there is no mention of what Reynen or Bardis did to the Boise, Idaho market with Corinthian Homes?
