Listed with the National Register of Historic places this home offers a glimpse back in time and provides one with great Historical sentiment. Located in the heart of Ashford Connecticut, a small rural town with scenic rolling hills in the Northeast corner of Connecticut commonly referred to as the “Quiet Corner”. Once the home of the Pompey Hollow Inn or as Mixer’s tavern, it is believed that George Washington was a guest at the inn.

This lovely home consists of 49 acres and has 5090 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths. The interior of the house features plaster walls, floors of wide hard-pine boards, raised panel doors, applied moldings on windows and door frames, and beaded casings on the post and beams. Large beams run from front to back in the lower front rooms and the posts exhibit a pronounced splay. The west front room has a complex bolection molding surrounding its small stone fireplace, with the entire fireplace wall covered with raised paneling. The east front room is somewhat differently detailed. It has a paneled dado (lower part) along the fireplace wall and paneled doors on the cupboard above the fireplace opening. The rooms main feature is the partition to a small back room; reflecting the buildings origins as a tavern. It has a paneled half door on the left and a smaller square opening on the right, fitted with a shelf and a fold down paneled door. The kitchen has a large stone fireplace with a brick oven on the left and a large circular hearth on the right; with red oak beams and tobacco barn board throughout. The countertops are slate and the sinks are hammered copper. The first floor consists of two wings that provide separate living space if you like as each wing has kitchen and laundry facilities.

The 2nd floor follows the plan of the first.  The east front room has a fireplace with a bolection molding and chair rail. The middle front room has a molded cornice, a chair rail, and in the corner of the room a corner cupboard with a paneled lower door, an arched opening and elaborately curved shelves. Other interior features to note are there are 10 fireplaces, vertical board wainscoting in the rear rooms and in the cellar a large arched opening in the foundation which is currently used as a wine cellar.  In addition the home property has a large garage and shop building remodeled from a barn. Also on the property is a guest house which dates to the middle of the 19th century and provides 1152 square feet of living space which includes 2 bedrooms a living room and a full eat in kitchen, laundry and full bath, ideal living space for a caretaker or groundskeeper. The land around the house is generally open with a small pond to the east. A large stable provides a great home for your horses with 8+ stalls, a loft, tack rooms and a large lighted riding ring. Choose from 10 acres at $699,900 or 49 acres at $850,000
