Daylight Savings Time begins 2AM March 10, 2013 in Delaware County PA
Remember to turn your clocks ahead late Saturday before you go to bed so you are not late for any appointments on Sunday as Daylight Savings Time begins at 2AM March 10. This is when time “Springs” forward an hour, we all lose an hour, but we all end up gaining more daylight at the end of the day. Daylight Savings Time is not practiced everywhere in the country, but it is practiced here in Delaware County.
My curiosity got the better of me about the history of this practice so I looked it up on Wikipedia. I had always thought Daylight Savings Time origins had to do with farming and helping in that area. But what I found out was that the idea had originated in Germany during WWI to help conserve fuel. The U.S. adopted the idea here as well during that war, but it was dropped after the war. It was again adopted here during WWII and has been maintained and revised by many states and places across the world to its present state, which is still in flux.
The most recent change to Daylight Savings Time was in 2009, when the ending of Daylight Savings Time changed from October to the beginning of November, which gives more daylight for children on Halloween as they venture outdoors trick-or-treating.
Daylight Savings Time begins close to springtime, thus “Spring Forward” and ends in the fall, thus “Fall Back”.
