The mountains of Northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina have a beautiful array of native birds and, I am happy to say, many call our yard their home. While I hate to admit I could waste hours just sitting and watching their antics, you will find numerous feeders around the yard and hanging from the porches and decks.
We have lots of Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chicadee and White-Breasted Nuthatch year-round. Recently the feeders have been overwhelmed with the arrival of the Cassin’s Finch, American Goldfinch and House Finch. We have several very shy Red-Bellied Woodpeckers and Downy Woodpeckers as well as Cardinals and an occasional Eastern Bluebird. We put corn out for the deer in the back yard and have attracted quite a flock of Blue Jays!
Last year this little lady, an Eastern Phoebe, visited us, built a nest in the support beams to our upstairs deck and hatched three little babies. She was spotted this morning with straw in her beak headed for the deck!
The french doors from our home office open to a covered porch where two feeders currently provide me with lots of distractions entertainment. With the snow of last night and this morning, the feeders have been very busy and I couldn’t resist taking a few shots to share.
This next shot was from a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes you really get lucky!!
If you need help identifying your birds of Northeast Georgia, Western North Carolina or whereever YOU live my favorite site is ALL ABOUT BIRDS from the Cornell Lab of Ornathology.
Whereever you are, whatever you're doing today - I hope you'll stop and enjoy the gifts God has given us.
