Lately, I have been wondering if blogging is worth the effort?
Years ago, my husband, an expert in all things online from design to SEO to E-commerce told me about the power of blogging. At the time I totally ignored him, How powerful could a blog be? Who cares what I have to say? What would I write about anyway? So I went about my day the usual way, updating my website regularly (without his help by the way, he was too busy with national clients to help me grow my little business), talking to those I meet at my kids school, social functions, grocery stores, libraries. My job as a Realtor is like most, I work 24/7. As soon as someone asks me what I do for a living and I tell them I am a Realtor/Broker, I am all of a sudden working. I was selling, not blogging, selling...isn't that what we do? Sell?
Well, during some down time about 8 months ago, I decided to blog. Write about homes available, my community, happenings, kids stuff (we have a local online magazine that encourages kids to write and be creative). I blogged at night before I went to bed and I blogged on my down time. I wrote about things that I thought might be interesting to global or local readers and things that interested me.
So here I am 8 months later thinking, "Is blogging really what will drive my business to the next level?" I love talking to people. I work 7 days a week until the wee hours each day. I get my leads from friends, family, people I meet when I am out and about. When I have some time to hang out with my family, I think, should I blog about this event? should I inform the global readers? You may not agree with me, but I decided NO, I should not. Spending time with my family is more important and is so precious and it is so rare. I know my family and friends are interested in every facet of my life and I them. So why not concentrate on that. There is so much blogging out there I am wondering if anyone is reading this stuff besides other bloggers. Not a bad thing, but is that what I really want? And honestly, what can't you find online these days. It's all out there!
I will continue to blog here and there, but the really good stuff I will continue to get outside of my blog. We are taking a much needed 4 night vacation on a Disney ship in a few weeks and I know I will still be working since I am sure to be asked what I do for a living, but I can guarantee you, I will not be blogging unless something crazy happens.
You can chime in if you like! Happy Saturday.
