Caribou Coffee has been the close alternative to Starbucks for a long time here in Chicagoland.  Well, Sunday morning while people are on their way to church, or other Sunday morning rituals, many will be in for a rude awakening – perhaps stronger than coffee.

Where did the Caribou go? Perhaps back up to the frozen tundra.

As of Sunday morning, The Minneapolis based coffee company is scheduled to close a number of their locations.  Only a select few locations in Chicago will remain open for the time being but will undergo an enormous face lift.

Not to worry Chicagoans, It will be a face many still recognize, Peet’s Coffee & Tea; a company that has gradually caught on through many of our largest grocery chains.  The semi-popular café style coffee/tea company is likely going to gain a larger share of the market.

Peet’s was acquired by Joh. A. Benckiser last year.  The infamous holdings company, better known as JAB, bought Peet’s for just under a billion dollars, and now acquired Caribou this year, they figure it best to rebrand as one company.

This major overhaul is scheduled take its course through 2015.  So if Starbucks isn’t you cup of tea, or coffee, then Peet is your guy.  Unless you live in the western, southwestern, and northwestern suburbs; I guess you’re stuck with Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s.
