How to keep birds from building nests in your wreaths....

Clarksville real estate professional Debbie Reynolds suggests the inclusion of a toy snake in your wreath to keep the birds from nesting.  A very practical solution.

robinHow to Keep Birds from Nesting in your Wreaths.

I love to watch the birds. They are beautiful with all the bright colors and fascinating to watch. I so appreciate that part of nature.

But I do not want them in the wreaths on my front door building nests. They tear the wreaths up by picking parts out of the wreaths to make their nests. They bring twigs and leaves and other debris into my wreaths and make them look ugly. They leave their droppings on my front door and all over the stoop. This is very uninviting to me and my guests and unsanitary as well.

wreathFor years I would try to stay ahead of the egg laying by undoing their nests. But they are fast little creatures and can have a nest built in a couple of days and their eggs deposited.  At that point I don’t want to evict them and undo nature’s cycle.  But I have figured out a way to have those birds go someplace else where they will be safer and more welcome.

How to keep birds from building nests in your wreaths. I borrowed a rubber snake from my grandson and placed it in my wreath. It worked like a charm and the nest building stopped.

Hiding snakeSince this worked so well I made a trip to the dollar store and bought my own snake in a color to match my wreath. I gently tucked it down into the wreath so it won’t scare any of my front door guests to death. I stuck the head up slightly so those keen bird eyes can see what is waiting for them if they dare.

There is only one small problem. The only snakes the store had grow in water. So if I get a blowing rain storm that beats on the front door, my little rubber snake may not be so little any more. It can grow to 3 feet long. At that point it might scare me to death too. I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

How to keep birds from nesting in your wreaths? Now I have no more unwanted nests in my wreaths. All because of a $1 fake snake and some little birds with only bird brains. Bye Bye Birdie.

Thank you for reblogging the post. I did not think that birds would nest in a wreath. I do not have a wreath on my front door but will keep this in mind for future.
