Summer Must Do List- Haena to Kilauea
This includes towns Kilauea, Princeville, Hanalei, and Haena
This wont be a usual blog post where I list summer activies on Kauai as hiking, water sports, tours. Instead I will mention summer musts by different sections of the island.
Haena to Kilauea is the northern part of Kauai. Known for its beautiful beaches and tropical weather. Here is my must do's for Kauais North shore:
- Beach, beach, beach! Some of the most beautiful beaches on Kauai are located on the North shore. Hanalei Bay: Great for everyone from toddlers to adults. The bay provides calm conditions and sometimes has small waves during the summer. Paddle boarding is a great in Hanalei bay. Watching the sunset is a must at this beach during the summer time, even after the sun has setted the sky starts to turn bright pink and purple. Tunnels Beach (Haena)- This is a great snorkling spot! Lots of ocean life to see at this beach along with actual "tunnels". There are underwater tunnels at this beach, you will know when you see one. Each beach on Kauai has something different to offer. Here are some others that stand out in my mind Lumahai, Queens bath (do not jump into open ocean!), and Ke`e beach.
My cousin visting from Cali at Hanalei Bay
- Hiking- Two hiking trails stand out in my mind. Stone Dam Hike- This hike is on private property and open to the public, located behind the Kilauea mini golf course. I would rate the hike as easy, and worth it. At the end there is a beautiful stone dam that is a nice picnic spot. This trail is also good for bike riding. Hanakapai Trail- This trail is located at the end of the road on the North shore. I would rate it as difficult but well worth it! The first part of the trail leads to a beautiful beach and if you keep going there is a waterfall that your able to swim in.
Hanakapa`i Beach
- Restaurant Musts- Hanalei Dolphin, Village snack shop in Ching Young Village (local food), Hanalei Gourmet, Kilauea fish market (the fish wraps are a must must!)
Random must: The Limahuli botanical gardens- Beautiful place to be and learn about native plants.
Stay tuned for Kauai Summer Musts from Moloa`a to Wailua!
