By now, everyone has heard of identity theft. Cyber crooks are savvy individuals. Your credit score is a major factor in whether or not a lender decides you are responsible enough to be trusted with a mortgage loan on that Austin home you have your eye on. Or, if you are already a homeowner, you could have trouble refinancing if your score has been compromised. As a consumer, you must stay vigilant. One of the ways to do so is to shred any old financial documents you don't need anymore. Austin's Free Shred Day offers residents the opportunity to dispose of these old documents in a safe, secure manner.
The Austin Chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) is hosting a Free Shred Day in the Austin High parking lot located at 1715 W Cesar Chavez. From 8am to 1:30PM, ARMA members will be on hand to take and dispose of personal records from Austin citizens. Each household will be allowed no more than five 24" x 24" file boxes of papers for shredding at the event. Several mobile shredding trucks from local Austin document disposal companies will be on hand to take care of the shredding details. The ARMA members will also be accepting monetary donations on Saturday for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas who help feed more than 300,000 people every year.
