How About a Little Fun For Once

By
Real Estate Agent with Encore Realty

I was talking with one of my friends the other day when I was asked, "What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you while showing a home?"  Where to start?  There have been many crazy things that have happened while showing a home.  The most typical is you never know what you are going to find when you open that front door.  A crazy dog or cat that no one mentioned and the every so lovely messy home.  I can't tell you how many times I have gone into a home and could walk in some of the rooms.  One home I went into was remodeled and the layout was so crazy, the buyers didn't want it because they thought they would get lost!  That on top of the fact that the carpet was different in every room!  Ah yes, the stuff that makes you laugh in your journey as a Realtor. So, my question to you is, what is the craziest thing that has every happened to you while showing property.  Enjoy your day.

How about a dog with diarrhea who went all over the dining room rug. Step into the house and surprise!! The smell could have knocked over an army! They didn't buy the house!

I was showing a vacant home which was undergoing renovations.  At the time the roof was being done. I noticed that when I tried the key in the door the inside latch was locked. This was odd because it was locked from the inside. I went around the back of the house knowing that the backdoor was another access to the house and told my customer to wait up front while I went through the house from the back. He waited at the front door and I made my way to the front where I found the latch on the door. I didn't give it much more thought and proceeded to show the home.  We walked into one of the bedrooms and I pointed out the closet space and proceeded to open the closet door.Inside the closet , in the dark crounched on the floor was a very scrawny woman with big eyes looking up at me. My first impression was that she was a corpse. My reaction was a hysterical fit of screaming and running towards my customer who was over 6 feet tall and had the build of a football player.  But he too became frightened with my screams thinking that I saw a snake he ran to the front door with me. After I told him there was a woman in the closet he freaked. He called to her saying: "what are you doing there?" You can't be here! She told him she was the roofers girl friend and he had gone to go get lunch. She was frightened when someone came to open the door and hid in the closet. I had to go home right after that experience and shower and change. The fear of finding someone in the closet had squeezed all the fluid out of me. That was a frightening experience.

Wow Joanna, that is crazy.  I have to admit that I laughed at it, but to be in your shoes I would have ran too!!  Sometimes you just never know what is going to happen in this business.  Thanks for the story.
