Cake Pops....advice given and advice needed

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with New and Company

For mothers day I was lucky enough to get one of those teeny tiny little cake pop makers, with tons of mixes, and even a chocolate melter/dipper.

Well of course I immediately offered to make them for a family baby shower coming up next week. This was before I actually tried USING the thing.

I decided to make some for dessert for a family dinner at home, they came out HORRIBLY, round on the bottom half and flat on the top, I put the

exact amount in, put it in for the exact recommended time. The only thing that I can think of is that I let the machine heat up too long before I put

them in which did not give them enough time to rise.  Also, I live in Colorado, so we are at a much higher elevation than most places but these mixes

to not have high altitude directions, does anyone else have some ideas on how I can get these babies round before the big shower day?! Help would

be much appreciated! I promise next time I will perfect my creations before offering to give them away! LOL

Pam,

I don't have any advice for you on the cake pops, but I do admire your willingness to try something new. Good Luck!!!

Hi Pam!  Baking is a hobby of mine and I usually produce professional results, so I think I can help.  First, you may try to fill only 1-2 "balls" in the cake pop maker and cook them at different amounts of time to see ch time may produce a better result.

If not, you may need to lookup altitude adjuctments for your recipes or try new recipes that specify your similar altitude because sometimes this can make a difference.

The last thing I can suggest and that sometimes actually tastes better, is to hand roll the balls.  This is done by taking baked cake and misxing in a little frosting or cream cheese frosting or anything with a consistency of thick cream.  You do it a little bit at a time with your hands and then when its nice and pliable like PlayDough, you roll it into balls and freeze them onto the pop sticks before dipping into the chocolate coating.

Hope that helps & good luck! :)
