How many of these fun facts about the American Flag and Flag Day do you know? 

The American Flag is nicknamed Old Glory or Stars and Stripes.

The thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies.

The 50 stars represent the 50 states of our Country.

The 50th star was added in 1959 when Hawaii was added to the Union.

The American flag had 15 stripes in 1794 but was reduced back to 13 stripes in 1818.

The flag was adopted in 1777 by resolution by the Second Continental Congress.

One of the earliest citations to celebrate Flag Day dates back to 1861. Through the decades attempts were made to make resolutions to display the flag on public buildings on this day.

Woodrow Wilson made a proclamation in 1916 to celebrate Flag Day on June 14th.

National Flag Day was established by Congressional legislation in 1949 and signed by Harry Truman.

National Flag Day is not a Federal holiday.

June 14 is also marks the birth of the American Continental Army which is the precursor to our U.S. Army.

National Flag Day is about displaying the American Flag and all the history of our country and the pride behind it.
