Thurston County Fair has been a summer favorite for many years - it has been around since 1871! The 2013 fair opens today, July 31st and runs through Sunday, August 4th. This year's theme for the fair is Laughter & Ladybugs - and there will be LOTS to see and enjoy!
If you like to see all types of farm animals, up close and personal, the agricultural barns will be your first stop. The various local 4 H clubs will proudly be showing you their cows, pigs, goats, horses, rabbits, dogs, chickens and more. The baby animals are always a hit with the crowd, and that chance to feel the softness of a lamb's wool or laugh at the antics of a lop eared rabbit.
Horses and their riders will be performing in the arena, and are also in barn stalls nickering and snorting at the crowd passing by.
There is a carnival so that you can ride high above the fair, zoom around in a roller coaster or try your hand at winning prizes at the game booths.
Don't miss the other exhibits of everything from quilts and photography to pies and jam. So much local talent on display!
And of course there is food! No fair would be complete without some corn on the cob, some sticky cotton candy or a yummy elephant ear or scone.
There is parking at the fairgrounds, but better yet you can park for free at nearby Woodland Elementary School and ride the bus right to the entrance of the fair!
