At the moment, watching video clips on a computer is a separate experience from watching sitcoms or documentaries on television.

But convergence is coming, posing new challenges for TV companies and advertisers.

"Because TV is moving into being delivered over the Internet -- and some of the big phone companies are building up the infrastructure for that -- you're going to have that experience all together," Gates said.

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley said the impact on advertising would be profound, with the future promising far more targeted ads tailored to each viewer's profile.

Chad's comment that "the impact on "ADVERTISING" will be profound" is worth listening to.  I contend that the golden age of advertising is now DEAD.  At least the way we knew it from the past 30 years. Print media, Radio and Television are all scrambling to be in the new digital game.  Business organizations including Real Estate Brokerages will have to face this impending shift.  Unfortunately, most leaders in the real estate industry are just getting their heads around VOIP, WEB 2.0, Google, Pay Per Click and blogging...but watch out,  because a new smarter Web is well under way!

Just when you thought things were under control, they're really out of control.  Engineers across the world are already writing the next generation web using protocols like  RDF/XML, N3, Turtle, N-Triples.   Bill Gates is well aware of all of this and more.  Microsoft's Vista and the XBOX 360 is all about controlling "the box" in your house.  Welcome to WEB 3.0.  What does WEB 3.0 have to do with TV advertising? Well,  just about everything...because it's everything television advertising is not.  TV in the WEB 3.0 world is marketing with precision accuracy and for those who will spend the money to use the medium, it it will yield huge results.

WEB 3.0 - per wikipedia "It is a manifestation of W3C director Tim Berners-Lee's vision of the Web as a universal medium for data, information, and knowledge exchange."  It's well underway. This wave will be more connected, open, and intelligent, using semantic Web technologies and distributed databases along with natural language processing, machine learning and machine reasoning.  TV advertising does not fit in anywhere above!

Real Estate is a product that lends itself well for the new WEB 3.0 world of no TV (advertising).  Real Estate does not need TV, print or radio.  Because when you promote your properties and information on the web..you are on TV!  Even as you sit there reading, the true consumers of Real Estate are NOT sitting around waiting for your next great commercial!  Why? It provides no data, no information or no knowledge. Remember, they are all ALREADY ON THE WEB!  Yep, on the web looking for houses with photos, streaming media and statistics or school information. The TV of the future is already here and only needs bandwidth. You are looking at it RIGHT NOW.  LCD's will rule and monitors (TV) of any kind will fill our landfills as another trend goes the way of 8-tracks!

The web is becoming an operating system in its own right. Real estate companies as well as brokers need to chose to be part of this new TV (which is the WEB).  I contend that any Real Estate company and it's brokerage community must divert all energies and resources to the WEB.  Why?  Let's look at the difference between advertising and Marketing.

“The best way to distinguish between advertising and marketing is to think of marketing as a pie, inside that pie you have slices of advertising, market research, media planning, public relations, product pricing, distribution, customer support, sales strategy, and community involvement. Advertising only equals one piece of the pie in the strategy.” Quoted from an About.com article.

The Web is a mix of business activities such as blogging, video, traditional web sites, pay per click, paid inclusion, podcasts, SEO, CPA, IPTV broadcasts and information syndication of all kinds...this is truly marketing.

A more intelligent web requires more intelligent marketing.

The goal of marketeers in a 3.0 Web world will be to be to build relationships with your consumers via social networks over the Internet. Where as the Web 2.0 was all about influence and control, Web 3.0 is all about building relationships, transparency and trust.

"Advertisers are already racing to adapt their strategies to the growing power of the Web, and more and more promotional cash is tipped to migrate from television to Web sites in future."

In the future, all marketing and all business will be done on the web.
