Real estate mastermind groups it's smart to belong to one.

I guess the thing that I know that is most responsible for my success in real estate is that I was asked to join a real estate mastermind group.  I belong to several, both local and National. Since real estate is highly competitive, agents in ones own office are least likely to compare real notes on how they do things to increase their edge, and close more business.  Why?  Because you are the competition!  In fact if you are in a high producing office, all the agents are most likely to be competing for the same listing or buyer.  It isn't unusual at all!  So if they will not share specifics on how to do things, and allow you to see their real inner workings - then how are you to succeed?

The answer is to join, create or get yourself invited to a mastermind group.  Why?  Because an agent is San Francisco is not going to be an immediate threat to an agent in Charlotte NC!  So if we share marketing ideas, and each benefit we stand a better chance of referring business to one another, or mention your name to another agent in the office that has a clients with real estate needs in your area.  Think of it as a get pay as you learn project.  The concept is very beneficial to all.  It allows a sharing of ideas, experiences, and brain storming sessions that allow us to think outside the box.  It is collaborative experience that allows you to break through the glass ceiling and achieve a level of production not dreamed about before.  The synergy is also so inspiring it challenges you to be your personal best.

Well actually since you mentioned it!  This is the main groupr I was referring to! It is incredible!  Thre are so many fringe benefits such as developing long lasting friendships that we have all developed over the years.  The knowledge is immeasurable!  I am vary happy that I was given a chance to particpate in the group!

The mastermind concept is fully embraced at Keller Williams. Top agents meet quarterly in Austin to share best practices, learn about new innnovations, and exchange ideas. It's a win-win for all involved.

It sounds great.  How do you join or get yourself invited to a group?  I have my own real estate company which I love but sometimes it does get lonely.  A group of us tried something like this a few years ago but it fizzled.

I was invited.  Then locally I formed my own.  In my local area I made sure I had a diverse group of members from non competing areas.  That could be geographic area, a different section of town, or specialty, buyers agents, listing  agents, commercial, other cities etc....

As I've said before, the accountability group I have with fellow Cyberstars Christina Whipple and Rick Lorenz, a type of mastermind group, has been enjoyable and successful for about 3 years!

Well in the CybrPros.  I can even talk on the side to a few of the members about techie stuff.  Web stuff can be a little boring - Like I need toothpicks to keep my eyes open!"  But it allows me a chance to converse, learn, and share with some great minds.

Alan,

Thank you for your kind comments.  You personally are responsible for raising the benchmark of production, and professionalism of the real estate industry.  You have created a platform built on a learning though a dialogue of shared ideas. You have created the ultimate mastermind group through the implementation and execution of ideas, personal accountability, and for creating  a think tank that allows the incubation and execution of ideas that will enrich so many lives. Your concept - CyberStars allow agents to achieve, share, and serve.

Keep up the great work!

Jim,

AR is my Mastermind group. There is so much information I don't think I will ever be able to incorporate all of it. But it will be rewarding to try.

I am reviewing your 400+ posts as I am typing this! Whew!!

Tara Colquitt, Consumer Credit Advocate  I need to reconnect to our mastermind groups.  This is the perfect time to re-examine ideas, and strategies!  I have other informal mastermind networks in the Atlanta area...and I agree, I use AR to be my mastermind group.

Hi Jim,

I stumbled across this post and wanted to tell you that I applaud your idea. In my new book, I encourage agents to start their own mastermind group, as you have, and even give them instructions. One thing I noticed in your post was that you used the term "immediate threat." I realize we have a competitive industry, but I have found that agents that are even in the same office can mastermind if they agree in advance to pursue different areas or farms. A lot of masterminding efforts focus on working our SOI anyway, so that's not (hopefully) an issue of competition. Just my thoughts.

Enjoyed reading over your blog!
