Wildlife Prairie Park in Central Illinois: Perfect Day Trip
A short drive from Chicago, St Louis, Des Moines & Indianapolis
If you live in the Midwest and haven't taken your family to Wildlife Prairie Park in Central Illinois, you're really missing a gem!
This 2,000 acre zoological park is located just outside of Peoria, Illinois in Hanna City. I've been bringing my family here for over 10 years and each time we enjoy a new set of memories.
What will you find at Wildlife Prairie Park?
- Over 150 animals
- Miles of hiking trails
- Pioneer Village
- Educational programs
- Secluded lodging
- Gorgeous nature scenery and wildlife
You're looking at about a 2.5-3 hour drive from Chicago, Indianapolis, Des Moines or St Louis so you'll want to make the most of it and look into the lodging. They offer a gorgeous and secluded Cabin on the Hill, silos, prairie stables (kind of like a hotel room) and you can even stay in a caboose.
Spend you're day hiking either natural trails spotting wildlife such as deer and wild rabbits, or the zoological park where you can find bears, wolves, bison, cougars and more! There are several dining and snack options available as well as two gift shops. They have ongoing educational programs, both free and paid, and educational play centers for the kids.
Enjoy fishing? There are several lakes available for fishing. We have never had a problem catching a few fish each trip.
There really is so much to do here you could easily spend 2-3 days here without the kids getting bored. In fact, they won't want to leave and will insist on coming back. That's why we've been back every year and will continue doing so.
So get out there and explore this awesome Midwest destination to Wildlife Prairie Park in Central Illinois: Perfect Day Trip!
