According to a recent report from the National Association of Realtors, single women made up 16% of homebuyers nationwide, while single men made up 9%.  The percentage of single women homebuyers has averaged at 20% in recent years past.  This has been a growing trend since the 90s, women purchasing more than men.  It stands to reason as more women have become the primary earners in their households.

Women are the breadwinners in 40% of American families with children and two-thirds of them are single!  One out of every five homes sold in this country are being purchased by single women, over a three year period the estimated amount in sales is roughly $550 billion!

Investing in real estate early in your life is a great way to secure your future. A young single lady may not need a single family home with a yard and a pool, she may purchase a condo instead. It still appreciates in value and mortgage payments might even be less expensive than local rental rates. Just be sure you have gone over your finances to account for not only the mortgage payment, but property taxes, utilities, repairs, etc. 

The family dynamic is ever changing and the traditional husband, wife and 2.4 children is hardly the norm anymore. As a Real Estate agent, I've had many different types of clients including single women, single men as well as traditional families. Working with buyers is very fulfilling as you get to celebrate their closing with the presentation of keys to their new home! I especially love the feeling of handing a hard working young woman the keys to her big accomplishment! The proud look on her face & the hug she gives me is priceless!

We have certainly come a long way from the days when women could not even buy property without a man on the contract. Seeing this trend with single women buying property is a testament to how far we've come as a society.
