Village at Deaton Creek

I have visited many active adult communities in Atlanta, but the one I probably like the best is Village at Deaton Creek, a Del Webb 55+ community.  Like most active adult communities it is located on the outskirts of the metro area, in a small community called Hoschton, in Jackson County GA.  It is located just off Interstate 85 kind of between Chateau Elan and Road Atlanta, two landmarks you will be familiar with if you live in the Atlanta metro area.

So why is the Village at Deaton Creek one of my favorite of the 55+ communities in Georgia.  Many reasons to include, well it's a Del Webb community for starters.  Del Webb knows active adult communities, that's for sure.

The people are friendly. Just staying for the weekend on one of those getaways you could feel it. We would fit right in. We felt on the same team, kind of like the feeling you get on some cruise ships where everyone takes right to you.

Important to me was that the community is established.  The activities clubhouse and all amenities are in place. No relying on grandiose plans that may never come true.  It's there.  Several section of the community are fully completed with resales and there is a new section opening up right now with new homes.

Participation in the activities was high.  The 35,000 sq. ft. 2-story activities clubhouse center, the ball fields and other features of this 55+ community are used.  I have been to some good looking active adult communities that had the facilities but you saw very little people and felt they may hardly ever be used.  Not at the Village of Deaton Creek, where people were definitely using the facilities. Maybe it's because of the activities director and the 90 plus social clubs & interest groups the Village at Deaton Creek has. The community has a great neighborhood portal web site for it's residents that lets you know what is going on with a calendar of events, new articles, community documents and more. But remember you can do as much or as little as you like.

Also the varied activities available was impressive.  Clubs and programs for EVERYTHING I could think of and more.  A balance also in the type of activities, not just ball teams and exercise, but you name it.

Maybe because the community is established but it looks great - the grounds, landscaping, site layout. The North Georgia scenery of trees and rolling land with trees and a large creek and pond are a plus.

Yes, I think out of the many Atlanta area 55+ communities, the Village at Deaton Creek is at the top of the list.
