October gives us cooler evenings, falling leaves and the opportunity to prepare our homes for freezing temperatures. If you want to keep the cold out and the utility bills down, follow these suggestions:
Check your windows and doors for gaps. Even if you caulked around them last year, the summer heat has compromised their effectiveness. Be sure to put a fresh seal on them.
Remove debris from your lawn, clear away any dead or dying limbs and plant fresh fall flowers on the porch. This makes your home seem inviting to others.
Have your furnace or heat pump serviced. This should be done annually to prevent any unforseen problems from creeping up on you without warning. It also gives you the opportunity to ask the serviceman if you need to upgrade your system.
Maintaining your home on a regular basis is a no brainer. After all, it is where the Heart Is!
