Showcase your State Active Rain Challenge - Great State of Texas
The Active Rain Staff created a challenge for the month of october for members to showcase their own State and tell everyone why it is a special place. It is very difficult I think to write a concise blog about any one State let alone Texas. The State of Texas is big in almost all respects. It is extremely difficult to narrow down salient reasons why it is a special place to live. Inspite of the stereotype of a Texan not everyone is shotgun toting Redneck driving an old beat up (POS) pickup truck who just as soon shoot you as look at you. There are a few no doubt!
One fact we recently came upon is Fort Bend County Texas which is the county where we live is the most diversified County in the entire USA. Diversified in this context meaning different types of people from numerous origins and backgrounds all living in the same geographical area. In my mind this should break apart the old stereotype of Texas and Texans rather quickly.
Picture above is Riverwalk San Antonio Texas.
There are so many different activities available pretty all year long to residents of this state and there are numerous things to see and places to visit. I will stay with the practical stuff why this is a special place to live.
Texas is blessed with an excellent economy with many folks moving into the State and Katy for excellent jobs which are available. I am not just talking about minimum wage jobs or government positions created by bureaucrats but real jobs. The economy these days is not solely based on the energy business but energy is still a very important and large employer. Katy has also been blessed with tremendous growth and new employment. I am not insinuating there is no unemployment here but there are opportunities available to individuals who want to work. If someone is looking for a free ride to let the taxpayers pay for their upkeep Texas is probably not the place to live!
Cost of living here is reasonable and cheap when compared to most other areas of the country. There is NO State Income Tax. The State Government here is not a nirvana but at least it works and keeps this state moving and does not allow the state to be being paralyzed by incompetent government bureaucrats who are all trying to steal the limelight for their own personal gain! I cannot imagine who I am referencing here? Can you?
When I worked for a French based Energy company folks visiting from Europe were all excited to go the Galleria area in Houston for shopping as the prices were so cheap at least in their minds. There is no question there are numerous top notch stores in the Galleria complex but prices in this mall compared to what those of us who live here can find and buy at throughout the state and local areas are outlandish.
Home prices here are still very affordable with buyers able to still buy fairly large homes at, compared to most of the rest of the US, very reasonable prices. School taxes here are high but the overall cost structure allows residents to live a much better life here than in most parts of the US.
If a criminal attempts to break into your home in Texas you are allowed to defend your home. Unless you do something totally stupid defending your home will not find the homeowner going to jail or being sued by the criminal since the homeowner violated the criminals rights to steal and physically attack. Unfortunately, as many folks know, living in several states this is not the case at all. The criminals these days have more rights it appears than the ordinary citizens. What is wrong with that picture? Not a problem in Texas. We have criminals but the rights of ordinary citizens are still superior to those who commit crimes.
